A book to help in writing a resume:

Do What You Are:  Discover the perfect career for you through the secrets of personality type. 2nd edition.

Tips on Resume Writing

Below are examples of how to reword skills/accomplishments.  Remember, people who read your resume may not know anything about the activities you list.  Using general terms such as “volunteer groups” or “fulfilled responsibilities of club president,” won’t mean much to someone involved in 4-H.  What are your leadership responsibilities?  Which volunteer groups did you present to?  How many people were involved? Were you one of three people to receive a certain award?  Convince the readers your accomplishments are above average by telling them why.

Take the opportunity to make your resume more professional looking and competitive.

LAYOUT OF RESUME

A example of a format would be to have the following headings:
Objective, 4-H Experience, Education, & Non-4-H Experience.
See the Score sheet on the following pages for specifics.

Fonts:  Choose a font which does not look like typewriter                     font.  Make sure it is large enough to read clearly, but not so large it looks like you are trying to fill space.  Typically 10-12 font sizes looks the most    professional. Do not use a smaller one.

Spacing:  Make sure the layout is easy to read.  Insure that the readers do not have to wade through sections to find the information they need.  Set different areas apart with space and bold and/or underline topics.

Specific accomplishments can be set up as sentences in a paragraph, or can be set apart with bullets.  Above all, make it simple for the reader to follow and locate specifics.

Phrasing:  Make sure working is consistent.  If you use complete sentences, do so throughout your entire resume. Alternating styles looks choppy and makes the document hard to read.

The Resume should be no more than 2 pages.
