Teaching Ideas for Family Life Educators

Family Life Educators come in many shapes and sizes. The best, of course, are storytelling grandmas and dads that give you special care when you're sick in bed (or take you fishing when you feel better). Professional family life educators are trained in home economics, psychology, nursing, social work, education, ministry, and a variety of other fields. They do their thing in the classroom, on the playground, in community planning groups, even lobbying the legislature on child care and teen parenting. The National Council on Family Relations has had a certification program for professional family life educators for over 10 years. For more information on the CFLE program, click on this title: National Council on Family Relations.

Since family life educators are a busy lot, teaching on a variety of topics, the outlines below provide resources which may help fill some of those gaps. If the ideas work, please write or e-mail back using the tool below. Also, if there are topics you'd like to see listed, tell us via e-mail below. Be sure to give the target audience, setting, and your name, address, phone, and e-mail address.

Since family life educators also tend to be a creative group, you may have your own adaptation of lessons you find here or good ideas of your own which you'd like to list. We will provide a screening process (so not everything will go up), but if you'd like to share ideas or have us connect to your site, let us know by e-mail above.
