Quality School Age Care
The national Extension Cares initiative seeks to coordinate needs assessment, training, resource development, and program evaluation across Cooperative Extension state programs.
The School age Care improvement project, initiated by the University of Georgia and funded by a Department of Health and Human Services/Child Care Bureau grant, seeks to conduct a comprehensive availability survey using Census data, geographic information systems locators for centers, on-site surveys and interviews with providers and parents. In addition, providers will be surveyed concerning professional and practical training needs. North Carolina is a participating state and will implement the study when funding and local collaboration becomes available. For more information, contact Ben Silliman at (919) 515-8485.
