Each
of us has his/her unique style. We each dress individually, have
different foods that we like best, prefer some types of music over
others and “move to the groove” with our own dance steps.
In other modules,
you learned about different roles that we may each play in a team
setting, and about different types of leaders. Now, let’s
explore different leadership styles that each of us, as individual
leaders, tends to prefer when working with others toward a common
goal.
A leadership
style is defined as “the consistent behavior pattern
that [a leader uses] when he/she is working with and through other
people, as perceived by those people” (Hersey,
Blanchard, and Johnson, 2001, p. 145). Just as you have
your own personal style regarding many personal things in life (clothes,
cars, foods, etc.), you also have your own style of leadership that
you tend to prefer over others. |
